Time tracking settings
Six settings decide how everyone in your workspace tracks time. Only the Owner (shown as Portal admin in the app for now) can change them.
- Go to Settings → Time tracking.
- Change what you need.
- Click Save.

The six settings
Require a project on every entry — Off by default, so time can be captured first and sorted out later. When on, nobody can start a timer or add time without choosing a project. See Time without a project.
Enable the memo field — Adds a memo to each entry: a longer, formatted note that prints on the invoice, beside the short description. Off by default.
How time is entered - Duration (the default) — people type how long the work took. Entries show no clock times, and today's entries can be resumed in place. - Start and end times — people type when the work began and ended.
The timer works the same in both. A change applies to new entries only.
How time is displayed — Hours and minutes (2:15) (the default) or Decimal (2.25). This is how durations read in the tracker and lists. Reports and invoices always use decimal.
Round billable time up to — No rounding (the default), 0.1 hours (6 minutes), 0.25 hours (15 minutes), 0.5 hours (30 minutes) or 1 hour. Each entry's billable figure rounds up to the next step; the tracked time is always kept as it was. Anyone can click an entry's time to see Tracked and Billed as. The step also sets how far the − and + buttons move a typed duration.
Team members can see colleagues' time on their projects — Off by default: each Team member sees only their own time on a project. Turn it on to let them see everyone's time on the projects they've been added to under Team on the project page. On any other project they still see only their own time, so add people to each project's Team for this to have any effect (see Create and manage projects). It covers the project pages, the Projects list totals and the project export; Track and My time always show only their own time. Admins always see everything, and what the time is worth stays with Admins either way. The setting also applies to what a Team member's API tokens and connected assistants can read.
Settings that live elsewhere
- Activity codes and Tags have their own pages under Settings. See Tags and activity codes.
- Your own timezone, which decides where your day starts and ends, is on Settings → Profile. See Profile and security.
