Billable and non-billable time

Every new entry starts as billable. Switch it off for work you won't charge for.

Mark an entry non-billable

Click the $ icon on the entry. A dark $ means billable, a faded one means non-billable. Click again to switch back. You can do this on any entry you can edit that isn't on an invoice yet.

The day's Billable and Total figures next to the date update as you go.

Internal projects are never billed

Time on a project set to Internal — never billed is never charged, whatever the $ says. On those entries the icon can't be clicked, and hovering it says Internal project — never billed.

The Billing column

After you stop a timer, Timebun works out how the entry bills. A label appears next to the time:

  • Direct — invoiced at its rate, with no balance involved.
  • Retainer — covered by hours the client already bought, so it bills at zero.
  • Overage — part or all of it wasn't covered by the client's hours, so it's billed on top. Hover to see the split.
  • Unpriced — no rate reached this hour, so it won't go on any invoice until it has one.
  • Pricing failed — saving the entry again retries.

You'll briefly see Pricing… while it settles.

Fix unpriced time

An entry is unpriced when neither its project, its client, the person who worked it nor the workspace has a rate. Once someone sets one (see Set your rates):

  • Click Price now on the entry, or
  • Click the button next to the day's totals, for example Price 3 unpriced entries today, to price them all in one go. In the Week view it covers the whole week.

Rows that already have a price are left alone. Or mark the entry non-billable if it shouldn't be charged.

Rounding

If your workspace rounds billable time (Settings → Time tracking → Round billable time up to), the list still shows what you actually tracked. Click the time to see Tracked and Billed as side by side.
