See your margin by person, client or project
Margin compares what work was billed at with what it cost you to deliver. Open it from Reports → Margin.
Only people who can see costs can open it: Admins and the Owner (shown as Portal admin in the app for now).
The report is included in Unlimited and Enterprise, and in your free trial; it isn't on Starter. See Timebun's plans.

Read the report
Each row is one person, client or project:
- Tracked — hours in the period.
- Revenue — what the time was billed at. Non-billable time brings in nothing. Hours drawn from a retainer are valued at the price per hour that retainer works out to at its current price, so changing a retainer's price changes the revenue shown for past hours too.
- Cost — what the time cost, from each person's cost rate. See Set your rates.
- Margin — revenue minus cost. Shown in red when it's negative.
- % — margin as a share of revenue. A dash when there's no revenue to compare against.

Notes under the table
The report tells you when a figure is incomplete, rather than guessing:
- * after a cost — some of that time was logged by someone with no cost rate, so cost is understated and margin looks better than it is. Add the missing cost rate to fix it.
- † after a revenue — some retainer hours had no rate to value them by, so revenue is understated.
- not comparable — the client is billed in a different currency from the one you pay your people in. Nothing is converted, so no margin is shown for that row, and totals are given per currency.
