The invoice PDF and payment page
Timebun doesn't draw its own invoices. Every invoice is Stripe's document, and clients pay on Stripe's hosted payment page. Both exist only once an invoice is finalised — a draft has neither.
The PDF
On a finalised invoice, The document your client received shows the PDF. Click Open PDF to open it in a new tab. On a phone, the PDF isn't embedded; tap Open PDF instead.
Above it, Timebun lists the projects the invoice covers — something the PDF itself doesn't show.
The PDF's logo, colours and business details come from your Stripe account, not from Timebun's Branding page. See Stripe's Customize invoices.
A Direct invoice's PDF includes:
- A line per time entry and per expense (Create an invoice from unbilled work).
- Billing period — the dates the work covers.
- Retainer balance — the client's hours remaining, if they have any left.
The PDF link in the email
The invoice email and every reminder carry a link to download the invoice as a PDF. The link works without signing in, so the client's accounts team can open it. It expires:
- 30 days after the invoice's due date,
- but never sooner than 30 days after the email was sent,
- and never later than 120 days after it was sent.
Each reminder carries a fresh link. Someone opening an expired one sees This link has expired and is asked to get a fresh copy from you — click Remind now on the invoice to send one.
The payment page
- Pay on the invoice page, the Pay invoice button in the email, and Pay in the client's portal all open Stripe's payment page in a new tab.
- Which ways to pay the page offers (card, bank debit and so on), and how it looks, are set in your Stripe account. See Stripe's Payment methods for invoices.
- Pay only appears while there's money to collect — on an open or uncollectible invoice with something outstanding.
- Once an invoice is paid, View receipt opens the same Stripe page, which then shows the receipt and payment method.
The Pay and View receipt buttons inside Timebun fetch a fresh link from Stripe every time they're clicked, so they keep working after a link Stripe issued earlier has expired.
Export the lines
On any invoice, Export CSV, above the lines table, downloads its lines as a CSV, with the invoice number on every row.
