Client contacts and invoice recipients
Contacts are the people, or billing inboxes, that a client's invoices go to. A contact doesn't sign in to anything. To give someone access to the portal, invite them as a portal user (see Invite clients to the portal).
Find contacts on the client's page, People tab, in the Contacts card.

Who receives invoices
- The Primary contact always receives invoices.
- Every other contact marked Receives invoices receives them too.
Those addresses get Timebun's invoice email and its payment reminders, the low-hours warning when a retainer client runs low, and the statement of hours if you send statements. The primary contact is also the address Stripe holds for the client. See Send an invoice and who receives it.
If you gave a Billing email when you created the client, that address is already the primary contact.
Add a contact
- On the Contacts card, click Add contact.
- Enter a Name and Email. This can be a person or a shared address such as an accounts-payable inbox.
- Optionally add a Title and Phone.
- Leave Receives invoices ticked if they should get invoices, or untick it.
- Click Add contact.
The first contact you add to a client becomes the primary contact. Each email address can only be used once per client.
Change or remove a contact
Open the ⋯ menu on a contact's row:
- Edit — change their details or the Receives invoices tick. The primary contact's tick can't be turned off.
- Make primary — makes them the primary contact and turns on Receives invoices for them.
- Invite to portal — opens the invite with their name and email filled in.
- Resend invitation — if they've been invited but haven't accepted yet.
- Remove — they stop receiving invoices for this client. Portal access, if they have it, isn't affected.
You can't remove the primary contact. Make another contact primary first.
What the badges mean
- Primary — the main contact; always receives invoices.
- Receives invoices — gets invoices, reminders and statements of hours.
- Has portal access — this address also signs in to the portal.
- Invitation pending — they've been invited to the portal but haven't accepted yet.
