Add a client
Everything you bill hangs off a client: projects, retainers, hours and invoices.
- Go to Clients in the sidebar.
- Click New client.
- Type the client's Name.
- Optionally add a Billing email. It becomes the client's primary contact, who receives your invoice emails. You can add more contacts later.
- Pick a Currency. It starts on your workspace's base currency.
- Choose how they're billed under Billing: - Retainer or hourly — they can buy plans and bundles, and any time those don't cover is billed hourly. - Hourly only — they can't buy plans or bundles; all their time is billed hourly.
- Optionally set an Hourly rate. It prices their time wherever no project or personal rate applies.
- If your workspace sells more than one price list, pick a Tier (Standard prices by default). The field only appears for Retainer or hourly clients.
- Add Phone, Website, address and Notes if you like. All optional.
- Click Create client.

You land on the new client's page. From there you can add projects, contacts and portal users.
Things to know
- Currency is fixed once there's billing history. As soon as a client has a retainer, hours, an invoice, priced time or a billable expense, their currency can't change. Billing them in another currency means creating a new client.
- Only Admins and the Owner (shown as Portal admin in the app for now) can see the Clients page and add or edit clients. Team members don't see it.
- Edit later from the client page: open the ⋯ menu and choose Edit details. Contacts and invoice recipients are managed on the client's People tab, not in that dialog.
Archive a client
When you stop working with a client, open the ⋯ menu on their page and choose Archive client. Their time and invoices stay reachable, but they drop off your working list and their portal closes.
If they're still on a renewing plan, Timebun asks what to do with it first:
- Archive and stop renewing — the plan lapses at the end of the period already paid for. Nothing is refunded.
- Archive, keep billing — Stripe carries on as it is.
To bring a client back, tick Include archived on the Clients page, open them, and choose Restore client.
